Bowman Woods Swim and Racquet Club

The Bowman Woods Barracuda swim team has an excellent reputation for providing both a fun, and competitive experience for summer and year round swimmers alike.  Swim team is open to both members and non members of the BWSRC. Member fee for 2018 is $90 per swimmer.  This includes all coaching, entry fees, and awards for the season.  Registration for Bowman Woods Barracuda is available April 15, 2018 and is open to public and members to join the swim team.

If your child is new to the swim team and falls in the 10 and under category, they are being asked to meet with the coaching staff prior to the season to demonstrate proficiency. This will simply amount to swimming two laps in the pool, one with freestyle, and one with another stroke, during which they do not stop, or hold onto the lane lines. If it is clear to coaches that it would be helpful for your child to complete swim lessons prior to joining swim team, the coaching staff will make that recommendation, which we ask be honored. Once proficiency is achieved via lessons, they are welcome to join at a pro- rated fee. This is to ensure your child’s safety, which is our driving concern.

Regular practice sessions will begin on Monday, June 4, 2018, and are held daily Monday – Friday throughout the summer, with the exception of meet days. Swimmers are encouraged to attend as often as possible, but busy schedules are understood, and conflicts happen. Keep in mind, though, that skill and stamina develop through regular practicing.

Practice times are as follows:

Ages 13 and above 6:30 AM - 7:30 AM
Ages 11 - 12 7:30 AM - 8:30 AM
Ages 10 and under 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM

At the coach’s discretion your child may be asked to practice with a different level depending on their skills and competition experience. If you have a schedule conflict and want your swimmer to practice at an alternate time it must be approved by the coaches prior to changing times.

Parents:

  • You will be asked to do two things to support our swim team this summer. The first is that you will be asked to volunteer at Home Meets. If everyone does their part, we would all have to volunteer for only one of the two meets. That is fair and I would hope you would agree. None of us are professionals at this, but by using our collective talents we will be able to: Direct Traffic, Set Up, Grill, Serve Food, Announce Events, Time, Ribbons, Run Clerk of Course, and Run Ribbons. You are always encouraged to pause and watch your swimmer.

  • The second thing I will ask of you is food donations prior to the home meets, this allows us to turn a profit, which in turn helps us offset the cost of equipment for the team. Thank you for helping!

Ice Cream Social (Meet the Coaches and Suit Sizing) May 20th, 6:30 PM at the Pool Cabana

There will be an ice social before the season kicks off. We will get the opportunity to hear from the coaches to get their perspective and get questions answered. We will also have suits of various sizes so you can confirm a good fit. The suits are the same design as last year.

  • Make sure you swimmers indicate their availability and stroke preferences for EACH of the meets. We will be implementing a new signup application that uses your phone this summer. More information to come....
  • We are hosting the meets on June 19th and 26th. The only way that works smoothly is to have volunteers for for it.  Signup will be posted soon.
